California town considers ban on smoking at home

The town of Bemont, California has proposed what could become the strictest smoking ban in the world. On March 14, 2007, the town’s city council held the first of several meetings to discuss the ban, which is aimed at protecting residents who suffer health problems which are aggravated by smoke.

The proposed ban would apply to private apartments and city streets, as well as parks and public buildings. If the proposal is enacted into law, the only permissible places for smoking would be a single family homes or private cars.
