School Settles Case after Teacher Taped Student’s Mouth Shut

The Vernon-Verona-Sherrill School District in New York settled a lawsuit today brought by an elementary school student who said that his teacher subjected to him to humilation by taping his head. The school district agreed to pay $33,250 to settle the case.

Adam Roser claimed in his lawsuit that in January 2004 his teacher, Elaine Main, put tape around his mouth, ears, and nose to keep him from talking too much. Roser was reportedly being treated for attention deficit disorder at the time.

Main was suspended for 30 days and lost a week’s pay for the incident.
