Facebook Apology for Tracking Web Use of Users
Facebook users may now permanently block a marketing tool that allowed the internet social network site to track the web use of its users at other sites, even when users were logged out of Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, apologized Wednesday for the application of ‘Beacon’, a tool that broadcasted data from user’s web activities on their friends’ pages in an effort to increase sales to the particular advertised sites and generate additional revenue.
Advocacy group, MoveOn.org presented a petition against the advertising method that included signatures of more than 65,000 Facebook members. In the future, Facebook will not store any information regarding user’s activity on other sites when the Beacon feature has been turned off.
