No More FEMA Housing Aid for Many Hurricane Katrina Victims

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Friday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) can stop paying housing assistance for many Hurricane Katrina victims. The court previously had blocked a preliminary injunction that was issued in June which required FEMA to continue making payments to victims during their appeals of FEMA’s decisions. Friday, the court vacated the injunction and remanded the case for further proceedings.

Many victims are now receiving aid from a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development program, effective December 1, 2007.
