After being taught to shoot a gun by his father, an 8-year-old boy from Arizona now faces two murder charges for shooting his father and a co-worker who rented a room from the father. The boy, a third-grader with no history of school problems or reports of abuse, confessed to planning and carrying out the killing. The boy’s attorney claims that the boy wasn’t advised of his rights before being questioned without representation by a parent or lawyer.
A gag order for the case proceedings has been issued by the court. Experts will be conducting evaluations of the boy to determine if he is competent to stand trial. He has been charged as a juvenile in the case. The boy’s father was a hunter who taught his son how to use a rifle to shoot prairie dogs. Neighbors claim the father and son appeared to be very close. No motive for the killing has been determined.
