Following a decision by the Illinois Supreme Court last week that the certification documents of Roland Burris were adequate, and that the US Senate must determine whether to approve his nomination to fill the senate seat of President-elect Obama, Senate Democrats today announced their acceptance of the Burris nomination. The announcement came after the secretary of the Senate’s determination that the documents met Senate requirements.
Originally, the Senate Democrats had argued that his appointment papers must contain the signature of the secretary of state along with the governor, but changed their minds after hearing Burris’ testimony before the impeachment panel that he was not connected to any wrongdoing.
