Pistachio Recall

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Monday that consumers should avoid eating food products containing pistachios after Setton Pistachio of Terra, Bella Inc., the country’s second largest pistachio processor recalled 1-2 million pounds of pistachios (of the 55 million processed last year) that were shipped on or after September 1, 2008 to 36 wholesalers that could possibly be contaminated with salmonella. The California-based company closed its plant last week after two individuals called the FDA with complaints of gastrointestional illness.

Last week Kraft Foods Inc. notified the FDA that it detected salmonella in roasted peanuts and recalled its Back to Nature Nantucket Blend trail mix. Kroger Co. also recalled bagged pistachios supplied by Setton.
