Democrats are proposing a second economic stimulus package, which will likely be acted on when Congress returns to session in September. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that Democrats are working on the new package, which may include additional tax rebates, heating and air conditioning subsidies for the poor, infrastructure projects, higher food stamp payments and aid to the states.

Most of the proposals have been previously rejected by President Bush during negotiations for the earlier economic stimulus package. President Bush cautioned lawmakers to await the results of the earlier economic stimulus package before proceeding with another stimulus package.
