President Bush on Wednesday asserted that executive privilege prevents him from turning over documents related to an investigation into the leak of a CIA operative’s identity.
A House committee had subpeonaed the White House for internal FBI records including interviews of Vice President Dick Cheney and other officials.
Last year, a special prosecutor interviewed administration officials while probing the leak of CIA officer Valerie Plame Wilson’s identity.
That probe eventually lead to the conviction of I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, on four counts including perjury, obstruction of justice and lying to the FBI. Libby is Cheney’s former chief of staff.
